Strong winds hit the Northeast overnight, causing power outages, particularly through central New York and Pennsylvania where over 100k customers are whiteout power in each state. Large numbers of outages are also being seen in Maine and New Jersey. Winds maxed out a tropical storm strength through many northeast cities, including Rye, NH which saw a 78 mph wind gust!
Now, onshore flow keeps the coastal flood threat elevated from the Chesapeake Bay through Maine.
Tuesday also brought record breaking rainfall for the Northeast, with many cities from D.C. to NYC seeing over 1.5" of rainfall leading to localized flooding.
The heaviest of the rain is now pushing offshore with snow showers continuing in northern New England. Still, a few flood alerts remain, especially along rivers, creeks and streams where snowmelt and heavy rain have combined to lead to the flood threat.
The strong front will produce heavy rainfall and even storms from Cape Cod headed North into Maine for the rest of the day today. On the north side of the storm system, cold air will support heavy snow for Northern New York and New England. The cold front will then exit New England by this afternoon with colder air returning and a few snow showers on the backside of the low pressure systems.
