Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

An upper-level low across the Southwest US is overspreading strong winds aloft across the central states. As this simultaneously occurs with growing instability at the surface, severe thunderstorms will be possible over the next few days.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/FORECAST-1744884440971.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>THURSDAY</h1>Better quality ingredients will come together with a more reliable spark: the cold front. More instability could put the better spark to use and fire up more storms on Thursday, but again could be well after sunset. That usually complicates matters - if storms favor the overnight hours, often a thin stable layer can develop near the surface. ​A classic late-season April snowstorm is currently impacting the Rocky Mountains, bringing heavy snowfall to regions across Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and Colorado. Winter weather alerts have been issued, with some areas expecting over a foot of snow accumulation. Not only is the storm expected to bring heavy snowfall, but high winds will be possible, promoting red flag warnings across Colorado, as an area of low pressure swiftly dives down to the south.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-17 080624-1744898796557.png"><h1>Timing</h1>Snow will be fall all day across Wyoming, progressively moving to the south throughout the day. By Friday morning, temperatures will drop across Colorado and there will be a few flurries to start the day. Friday evening, snow will continue to fall across Colorado and Utah. Fire season has started early for the Southwest and will remain active through June, or until the monsoon season brings relief. It has been abnormally dry so far. Unfortunately, this means that anytime the slightest breeze kicks up, the fire threat will accompany it. It has been so incredibly dry that until meaningful rain moves in, this will likely be the case. The chance for severe thunderstorms will remain as we wrap up the week and head through the weekend. For Friday, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has a SLIGHT risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe storms. It is a large area, from the Rio Grande to the UP of Michigan!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-16 172956-1744846212033.png">A lot of fun activities are taking place this weekend! Unfortunately, these events might be interrupted by a multi-day severe weather outbreak affecting portions of the Midwest and Southern Plains. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all pose a threat of strong and severe storms.The setup is somewhat reminiscent of the beginning of the month. A stubborn trough will keep many locations primed for daily severe weather chances. Details this far out are about as clear as mud, with each round somewhat dependent on the previous round. It's hard to see the fifth domino in a line when four others are in the way. Two upper level lows have brought a shot of cold air across the Northeast. Temperatures Wednesday AM were chilling for Illinois and Indiana. These chilly temperatures are going to continue to spread east. The mid-Atlantic will wake up to temperatures around 32° and or frost developing outside. This can be harmful to plants that have been planted especially since it has been a few weeks with warmer overnight temperatures. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Web 19-1744803212343.png">There are a few winter weather advisories that continue into Wednesday for a quick inch or two of snow and wind gusts upwards of 35 mph.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Winter Temps-1744803224940.png">The Northeast will spend the rest of the week digging out of this cool pocket and warming back up to seasonable levels and beyond. 2024 was an active year for severe weather. The U.S. ended the year with the most tornadoes in over a decade. A multi-day severe weather episode occurred over the weekend, December 27-29th. More than 40+ tornadoes were reported across the South causing numerous fatalities.
