<p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

<p>Back-to-back low pressure systems have kept the Northeast soggy the last few days. Pesky rain and snow will linger for New England this weekend, while other areas see brief clearing before the next system arrives.</p><h2>Snowfall</h2><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-12 094259-1744472645782.png">A round of light snow fell with the first system Friday morning, while heavier snow came down to start Saturday! Areas from Boston to northern New Jersey have seen the white stuff, up to 9 inches in Massachusetts.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/2025-04-12 06-19-54-1744460424926.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>The storm will not be in a hurry to exit the coast, as it will linger into Sunday, with persistent showers likely across parts of&nbsp;Boston and surrounding areas. Weekend plans could be a washout, especially for those hoping to enjoy springtime activities outdoors. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-12 061944-1744460520100.png">There will be more snowfall across the northern extent of the Northeast through Sunday. Snowfall totals could reach over 6 inches in some areas. Cities such as Buffalo, Manchester, and Burlington, Vermont, typically see their last average snowfall around mid-April. <p>A surge of unseasonable heat is about to sweep across the western one-third of the country, with&nbsp;record-breaking temperatures&nbsp;in the forecast continuing through&nbsp;the weekend. A&nbsp;strong ridge of high pressure&nbsp;will settle over the region and dominate, trapping warm air and sending temperatures soaring 10-20° above average. A few record highs were achieved including in Phoenix, AZ where they hit 100 degrees for now two days in a row (Wednesday &amp; Thursday). Mostly recently, 103 degrees in Phoenix on Friday. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/1-1744426923228.png">For Tucson, this was the earliest in the year the city ever recorded a high of 100° or more. The previous record was April 19th! </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-12 101237-1744474502725.png">Many cities are anticipated to tie or break record high temperatures on Saturday. The stretch of record-challenging temperatures will expand northward into parts of the&nbsp;Intermountain West&nbsp;and&nbsp;the Northern Rockies.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/1-1744427075633.png"></p><p>Weekend one of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival is this weekend in Indio, CA. Karissa grew up loving math and science, but really fell in love with Meteorology while attending the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. After two summers of storm chasing in the central plains, she knew that it was the career path for her. <p><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">Today, meteorologists and research scientists at </span><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://tropical.colostate.edu/forecasting.html"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)">Colorado State University (CSU)</span></a><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0)"> have released their outlook for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Dr. Phil Klotzbach and the Tropical Meteorology Project at CSU are among the first to issue an outlook for the season. Early predictions expect this year's hurricane season to be busier than average. This year they anticipate 17 named storms, 9 of which will become hurricanes and 4 of those are expected to become major hurricanes (CAT 3 or greater).</span></p><div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/NpwxsMmHDIU" start="0"></iframe></div><p>Forecast factors that contributed to their above average outlook focus on the El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and sea surface temperatures. In the coming months, a transition to ENSO neutral is expected. That usually does not give a strong single for an above or below average season. However, by the end of the summer into early fall (climatological peak of hurricane season), a potential transition to La Nina is forecast. There is not much certainty on the likelihood or intensity of that La Nina transition, though. Nonetheless, an absence of El Nino which traditionally suppresses hurricane activity is enough to warrant an above average forecast.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-03 081623-1743689797271.png"></p><p>Sea surface temperatures in the tropical Atlantic remain above average this year. CSU, First 2025 Hurricane Season Forecast Above Average

<p>An upper-level low pressure system will continue to produce strong to severe storms through Friday as it heads into the Atlantic. On Thursday, this low spawned numerous severe storms from the Midwest into the Deep South, producing damaging hail, winds, and a tornado that damaged multiple buildings in southern Indiana (top of page). The tornado hi the town of Princeton and has been rated EF-1 after completed damage surveys. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-11 061636-1744373804766.png">On Friday the risk for severe storms will follow the front to the coast and into the NE Gulf. A few severe storms will be possible from Virginia to Florida, with wind and hail the primary concerns once again. With rotation embedded in the low, don't be surprised to see a tornado or two as well in North Carolina or Virginia.</p><h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-11 061832-1744374268381.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Day1SVR-1744409080616.png"></h2><h2>Forecast</h2><p>Showers and storms look to reach severe storm criteria (hail over an inch in diameter, gusts 58 mph or stronger) by the mid-to-late afternoon, pushing into the Atlantic waters by the late evening.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/FORECAST-1744405042921.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p>Rainfall totals west of the Appalachians doesn't look very impressive. Tornado Causes Damage in Indiana, Severe Threat Moves to the Coast

<p>The dangers from previous days' torrential rainfall across the mid-south still loom, as residents begin to return to their neighborhoods. Prolonged heavy rainfall in parts of Kentucky led to over a foot of rain, with other parts of Missouri and Arkansas seeing over 7 inches of rain. A quasi-stationary boundary stalled out, bringing multiple waves of severe weather and torrential rainfall last from April 2nd through 6th, 2025.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-07 073929-1744033179371.jpg"></p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1908905034558943307" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1908905034558943307"></div><p>Many residents displaced by the flooded waters, wanting to get back home, were instructed by Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear to wait to return home instead of driving through flooded roadways. <strong>Turn Around, Don't Drown.</strong> <span style="color: rgb(31, 31, 31)">Over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood waters.</span></p><div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1908520002384506922" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1908520002384506922"></div><p>While the storms are long gone, the impacts are still being felt. Flood alerts are ongoing as rivers, creeks, and streams remain high. The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. <p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739061270112.png">Around 6PM ET, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake was detected in the Western Caribbean between the Cayman Islands and Honduras. Over the past few hours, there has been a few aftershocks near the epicenter. Also, there has been a few smaller earthquakes near Puerto Rico.</p><p>According to the USGS, it is not out of the ordinary to see earthquakes at this location. The last earthquake nearby this location was back in January 2018 with a magnitude of 7.5. A small tsunami was caused similar to tonight's earthquake. The danger of tsunamis have ended and there is no threat to the Gulf waters.</p><p>We will keep you updated as this is a developing story.</p>
