Meteorologist Jesse Kelley is excited to join the talented staff at Weather Nation. Jesse spent most of his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. From Alabama, Jesse started his broadcast television working three years at KAVU-TV in Victoria. Recently, he finished a stint in Shreveport, LA. Jesse and his wife are looking forward to making the Rocky Mountains and Colorado home. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739061270112.png">Around 6PM ET, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake was detected in the Western Caribbean between the Cayman Islands and Honduras. Over the past few hours, there has been a few aftershocks near the epicenter. Also, there has been a few smaller earthquakes near Puerto Rico. According to the USGS, it is not out of the ordinary to see earthquakes at this location. The last earthquake nearby this location was back in January 2018 with a magnitude of 7.5. A small tsunami was caused similar to tonight's earthquake. The danger of tsunamis have ended and there is no threat to the Gulf waters.We will keep you updated as this is a developing story.

A winter storm is moving across the Great Lakes and the Northeast on Saturday. Snow has already begun to fall across the Great Lakes, with temperatures in the dropping into the 20s. This system comes off the heels of heavy snowfall that was just came down across the New England states yesterday. The pattern across the northern tier will remain active into next week. Winter alerts remain for Southern Maine back to Northern Ohio. Areas the Winter Storm Warning, the forecast is calling for heavy snow between 6-12". In addition, Ice Storm Warnings are up again for many of the same areas that saw ice accretion just a few days ago.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739072268937.png"><h1>FORECAST TIMING</h1> As the warm front lifts north on Saturday, precipitation will change from snow to ice or rain depending on the temperature. For the Winter Storm Warning area, heavy snow moves in Saturday night into Sunday especially along and north of Interstate 80. Travel on Saturday night and Sunday could be dicey. Behind the cold front, lake-effect snow will be possible for additional round of snowfall.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Baron 2-1739072576248.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Major metro areas, as Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C., will see icing up to nearly a tenth of an inch as temperatures are cooler at the surface, but warmer aloft. Travel will be hazardous on Saturday night and Sunday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/1-1739072657615.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2-1739072667674.png">The snow will eventually tapper off headed into Sunday afternoon. The Southern portion of the U.S. will continue their record-breaking temperatures throughout the rest of the weekend. By now, the South is no stranger to the warmer weather, as the temperatures have been above average since Sunday. More records fell on Saturday and we will see a few more fall on Sunday! However, a cold front will end the record potential from west to east this weekend.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2-1739060229945.png">Records on Saturday are possible from New Mexico to North Carolina, while the warmest air on Sunday will linger in the Southeast.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2025-02-08 06-11-22-1739020310844.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>SOUTHERN PLAINSAs spring-like temperatures continue, the Southern Plains and western Gulf Coast will have many records challenged through the weekend. Cooler air will attempt to make it further south, but daytime highs ahead of the front will remain close to 25° above average in some locations.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2-1739060341910.png">SOUTHEASTThe Southeast will also be feeling the unseasonable warmth. Many records are expected to continue to fall into the weekend. Record Warmth Continues Into the Weekend

Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Two rounds of severe weather, including tornadoes, tore through the Mid-South on Thursday. The morning round of storms occurred in the hours leading up to sunrise, with two EF-1 tornadoes confirmed in Kentucky. Another round of severe storms raced across Tennessee and Kentucky in the evening, producing at least three tornadoes. One tornado in Morgan County killed two people and injured at least 3, according to local law enforcement.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot 2025-02-08 055213-1739019145196.png">Tornado surveys have concluded, but results indicate EF-2 damage for the deadly Morgan County tornado, with EF-1 damage elsewhere. According to NWS Morristown, there has only been 12 February confirmed tornadoes in these region of East Tennessee and Western Virginia. The last confirmed tornado back in 2011 and the fourth tornado in Grainger County, TN.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/02/2025-02-07 12-12-38-1738955589906.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>The Storm Prediction Center issued a risk for isolated tornadoes in the region. Storms caused damaged mostly after dark as they moved from NW to SE. Flash flooding, hail, and straight-line wind damage also occurred.

It's been a warm and dry few days in the mountains of Utah and Colorado, but that is changing. Over the past week a strong Atmospheric River has been pumping moisture into California, leading to heavy rainfall and Snow. Heavier showers moved into southern California overnight, with about 2-3 inches in the mountains and along the coast. Snow and rain will linger into the early afternoon, but impacts should be minor.
