Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

An upper-level low will glide into the plains this weekend. This, coupled with increasing moisture from the gulf and building instability, will bring another round of severe storms for the end of the weekend into the next work week.It has been a busy March across the country with every weekend having some threat of severe weather. This weekend keeps that trend going. A large trough of low pressure and accompanying surface front will push east across the Plains and Midwest on Saturday, intensifying on Sunday as the trough begins to tap into rich Gulf moisture and warm temperatures. An Enhanced risk Top of page) has been issued from Louisiana to Ohio, where severe storms are more likely to occur and could be intense.<h1>Outlooks</h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 050154-1743246925681.png">The SPC is also outlining significant severe weather potential, including the chance for strong, long-track tornadoes for the region above in dark red. Tornadoes in this area will have the potential to reach EF-2 or higher, which can cause damage or destroy well built homes. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 050150-1743246988144.png">Gusts over hurricane strength (74+ mph), and giant hail (2" in diameter or larger) are also possible for the regions above.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 051425-1743246871266.png">The severe potential will remain on Monday as a front slides across the Southeast. Cities like Washington D.C. through New Orleans, LA will be under the severe weather threat Monday. <h1>Future Radar</h1>Storms look to intensify by early Sunday afternoon across the Midwest, forming a long cluster of storms, likely a squall line or QLCS. As this line congeals, we'll likely see storms packing damaging winds become more widespread as the line moves east overnight. Hail and tornadoes will remain threats well into the overnight hours as well, so please have multiple ways to get severe weather alerts that can wake you up. Storms will likely wane in intensity around sunrise Monday before intensifying again Monday afternoon as they approach the I-95 corridor. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/2025-03-29 05-18-14-1743247148107.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>Flooding</h1>Heavy rain is expected to accompany the strong thunderstorms, with rainfall rates surpassing 1-2 inches per hour.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 053341-1743248038941.png">For areas that are hit by multiple thunderstorms, this will mean the potential for 3-4 inches of rain. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. LOWER MO VALLEY— A developing frontal boundary will dramatically drop temperatures in the Plains and Midwest through the rest of today and into Saturday, tapping into rich gulf moisture as it drops farther south.On Saturday, watch out for a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms (in yellow), with storms possibly starting late in the night along the dry line down to Texas.Hail is the primary threat Saturday afternoon and evening, with significant hail (bigger than golf balls) possible for the hatched region below in northeastern Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/PIC 2-1743281377706.jpg">Tornadoes are also possible from Oklahoma City to Kansas City.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Web 3-1743247993348.png">As the upper waves and associated surface fronts move through, severe thunderstorm development will be possible over the coming days. Freezing air will linger near the Canadian border and just to the south throughout the weekend as multiple wet storm systems move across the country. This will lead to significant snow and ice for some, causing travel issues and potential power outages.<h1>NY &amp; New England</h1>Major impacts are expected across portions of New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. Areas in red could see significant power outages paired with very difficult travel at times.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 062429-1743251603669.png">Winter alerts have been issued from Buffalo to the eastern Canadian border to account for the impacts to travel and at home.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 062433-1743251610611.png">Snow and ice will continue on and off through Saturday into the first half of Sunday. Sunday afternoon will see a fast warming trend as the warm front lifts north. This will lead to heavy rain and severe storms Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/2025-03-29 06-24-46-1743251698847.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snow could be heavy for a few locations as well, mainly into the White Mountains in New Hampshire.<h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 062437-1743251616578.png">Upper-Midwest</h1>Ice will bring big-impacts to Wisconsin and Michigan as well, with over half an inch of ice expected from the North Woods to the UP of Michigan (and northern Michigan) from Saturday through Sunday evening.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 061608-1743250646026.png">Ice storm warnings have been issued in addition to other winter alerts to account for the ice, as well as heavy snow for some.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 063421-1743251667354.png">The ice and snow will be the heaviest late Saturday through Sunday, with gradual clearing from west to east into Sunday night and early Monday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/2025-03-29 06-32-57-1743251682505.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Snow looks very heavy for portions of the UP of Michigan, over a foot. Ice Storm Targets New England & the Upper-Midwest

TEXAS - It was a harrowing day for residents of the South Rio Grand Valley on Thursday, as multiple heavy thunderstorms caused flash flooding to occur in a number of areas, with a Flash Flood Emergency declared for portions of Hildalgo County along I-2! With well over a foot total in some locations, it's not hard to see why!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-28 163934-1743201579948.png"> Drought-stricken soils often have difficulty retaining water quickly, which causes runoff and flooding. This could have exacerbated the flooding issue earlier on Thursday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-25 173906-1742946329332.png">Flooding will remain a concern through Saturday and possible on Sunday from the Central Gulf coast though the Southeast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 100442-1743264355092.png">According to the WPC, additional rainfall totals may reach up to 5-10", but localized amounts may reach amounts upwards of 10-15". Given the environment we are looking at, rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are a possibility, with some of the heaviest rain looking to fall in Louisiana Saturday. The WPC has upgraded the flood risk to MODERATE, which indicates the chance for significant flash flooding where water rescues may be needed.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 054854-1743248956550.png">Isolated severe storms are also possible from the Sabine River to the AL/MS border. Gusty winds and tornadoes are possible.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-29 065654-1743253082212.png">Stronger storms are expected through the afternoon hours on Saturday from LA to MS/AL, but on Sunday the storms will move toward the east coast with the upper-level trough. A strong area of high pressure has built east into the Plains and Upper Midwest, which means warm-to-hot temperatures have been felt. West Stays Active With Rain & Snow

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

A slight risk for severe weather continues overnight for portions of the Northwest, including Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR. This is not something we see often! Both Seattle and Portland are under a Slight Risk of severe weather.A powerhouse system will spin onshore, but it's coming on the heels of record-warm temperatures. That combination typically doesn't happen up here, especially not this early. The Storm Prediction Center has a significant hail threat along the I-5. This means hailstones greater than 2" will be possible.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-26 211020-1743045051565.png">The tornado threat has also been downgraded to a 2% risk. Overnight Severe Threat Continues in the PacNW

A new wildfire has started in Lake County, in the Twin Lakes area of Colorado. This alpine community is west of Denver, halfway between Buena Vista and Leadville, CO. Large amounts of smoke were being produced by the fire on Tuesday afternoon. As of Tuesday evening, the size of the wildfire is around 165 acres. There are no active red flag warnings in effect for Colorado and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Twin Lakes is one of the bookend towns of Independence Pass, flanked on the other side by Aspen. It is a seasonal road open from May - October and is popular for hikers and campers.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="1800648748587999539" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/1800648748587999539"></div>According to local Emergency Managers, "There is a wildland fire near Interlaken in the Twin Lakes area. Leadville/Lake County Fire Rescue is on the scene. It is essential to steer clear of the affected area to allow emergency responders to work efficiently. Please avoid overwhelming dispatch with inquiries as they coordinate resources. Stay tuned for further updates as more information becomes available.
