Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

As we head into the weekend, a strong upper-level trough will swing into the central US. As this occurs, a surface low will begin to pull in moisture from the south, increasing instability. Strong upper-level winds will combine with instability to increase severe weather potential across Texas on Sunday and through Monday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a level 2 out of 5 for areas like Wichita Falls and San Angelo on Sunday, with a level 2 risk for Dallas on Monday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-16 050608-1731759133790.png">Damaging winds are expected to be the most widespread hazard Sunday evening into Monday , but a tornado risk is increasing for places like Abilene and Wichita Falls.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-16 151302-1731795199032.png">Monday's risk covers a much larger area from Texas up through I-70 near Kansas City, with the elevated risk in the morning hours around I-35 in Dallas up to OKC.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-16 151541-1731795356468.png">Rain coverage will increase through west Texas and Oklahoma Sunday, but severe storm potential will likely be on hold until around sunset, or even shortly thereafter. Severe weather chances will persist overnight, with a squall line potentially forming to increase the chance for damaging winds. These strong storms could approach and pass the I-35 corridor between Dallas and OKC before dawn, so make sure you're ready for overnight severe weather!<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/2024-11-16 05-14-31-1731759308690.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>On the north side of the surface low and associated warm front, heavy rain will be possible Sunday afternoon and throughout the day Monday. Severe Storms Target the Southern Plains Sunday into Monday

Tropical Storm Sara continues to churn near Honduras bringing flooding rainfall to the area. Now, on its third day lashing Central America causing catastrophic flash flooding. It was designated a PTC on Wednesday due to imminent tropical storm impacts in Central America. It became Tropical Depression 19 early Thursday before strengthening to a tropical storm Thursday afternoon. Heavy rainfall in the U.S. is possible with this system, but not until the middle of next week.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-16 053601-1731760585063.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-16 053636-1731760619129.png">The storm is expected to increase slightly in strength as it slowly churns along the northern coast of Honduras. This slow movement will produce life-threatening flash flooding for this region, especially in Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, and the Yucatan in Mexico.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-16 053713-1731760700013.png">Rainfall totals around the Bay of Honduras could top 6-10 inches through the weekend, with landslides and mudslides possible in hilly terrain. Flash flooding is likely for any low-lying area.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-16 053728-1731760708462.png">A ridge of high pressure will push the system slowly west through the weekend before the ridge moves farther east. This will allow southerly flow to bring the system north into the Gulf of Mexico, where forecasts show a shift to the East towards Florida. Interaction with the Yucatan is expected to break the system up, with a weak low bringing heavy rain to the Southeast next week.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-16 053748-1731760717071.png">The Weather Prediction Center has highlighted areas across the Southeast for heavy rain Monday and Tuesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-16 053804-1731760725439.png">As always, if you live in an area that sees impacts from tropical systems, stay weather aware.

A parade of systems will keep the Northwest and Northern Rockies very active over the next seven days. There will be multiple rounds of rain and snow, as multiple low pressure systems move through the Northwest.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/FORECAST-1731796625296.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Heavy snow and rain will be possible at times and this means travel can be impacted. Winter alerts have been issued for the Intermountain West and the Cascades.Winter storm warnings are in place for portions of Washington. Heavy snow and gusty winds will be possible. Active Pattern in the Northwest

A digging trough from the northwest will work through California to increase snow chances for the Sierra. Winter Weather Advisories have now been issued for the high country for up to a foot of snow. The winds will be strong along with the snow chances, and travel could be difficult along some mountain passes. More winter alerts could be added to this map as the event unfolds.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-15 081841-1731683953697.png">Throughout Thursday, the precipitation will start to increase from north to south. On Friday as the cutoff low lingers, more rain and snow is likely across the Sierra spilling over into Nevada and Utah. Rain and Snow Chances Increasing for California

Fire alerts have been discontinued in the Northeast, but there still remains special weather statements for this area, with winds coming out of the North at 5 -15 mph. Breezy conditions with low humidity values across the region will still keep the fire weather concerns heighten.Fires continue to burn across portions of the area, including the Jennings Creek Fire. Here, over 2,000 acres have burned.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/1-1731556550585.png">Even after some rainfall in the last few days, vegetation remains very dry, with drought conditions continuing to worsen.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Screenshot 2024-11-11 172014-1731370817332.png">Models are depicting more moisture returning to the area, with relief from elevated fire conditions on the way. This looks to be focused into the end of the week. Beneficial Rainfall on the Way for the Northeast

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

There is a marginal risk for severe overnight including the cities of Mobile and Pensacola. As a cold front moves through a few storms can be strong to severe with an isolated tornado threat. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/sffl-1731557230412.png">Damaging winds and a tornado or two are the biggest concerns with this round of severe weather overnight, make sure to have multiple ways to get alerts.While the tornado threat with these storms is low, it's not zero - have a way to receive warnings throughout the night! Since soils are so saturated, the flooding risk might be the easiest one to come by with this system. Some areas could see another 2-3 inches of rain, continuing the flooding threat down south.

As of Thursday night, this fire has now burned over 20k+ acres and has threatened numerous structures, with little containment. The <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.gov.ca.gov/2024/11/06/california-secures-federal-assistance-to-support-response-to-mountain-fire/">Governor of California has approved FEMA </a>to help ensure resources to Ventura County for this fire.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/11/Web 12-1731432829752.png">FEMA is assisting the area devastated on the West Coast by this most recent wildfire. Over 130 homes have been destroyed with another 7,000 being threatened still. Evacuation Orders are still in effect for the area. The same are is facing some Elevated Fire Weather conditions as a front moves through. Outdoor burning is not recommended. In this type of situation gusts up to 60 mph will be possible. Snow has returned to the northern Rockies with heavy snow continuing through the Bitterroots of Montana, Idaho, and the Tetons of Wyoming. An unsettled pattern and winds from the north/northwest keep snow showers around for the highest elevations through the start of the weekend.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/02/FORECAST-1707355435070.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Due to the prolonged snow potential, winter weather alerts are in effect into Friday across Wyoming, Idaho, Western North Dakota, and Montana to account for more snow. New snow totals of 3-6" will be possible region-wide but higher or lower depending on elevation.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/02/pic3-1707355122701.png">In addition to the winter weather alerts, the incoming snow will lead to unstable mountain slopes. As a result, the avalanche danger is elevated around Big Sky, MT and the ski resorts of central Idaho.
