SOUTHEAST - Strong thunderstorms will continue as a low-pressure system moves across the southeastern U.S. for the beginning of the workweek. This low-pressure system has been responsible for large hail reports and rainfall totals that have almost reached half a foot in the state of Florida.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-10 042524-1741602463293.jpg">The low will continue to dump rain along the Gulf Coast through Monday before exiting along Georgia and South Carolina on Monday evening. This will continue to produce heavy rainfall and the threat of severe storms across the southeast.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-10 042453-1741602527533.jpg">The Storm Prediction Center is most concerned about the central Atlantic coast of Florida as storms move in Monday. The biggest threat looks to be damaging winds and an isolated tornado. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/03-09_hrrr se-1741568598570.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Northern Florida appears to have the best chance of surpassing 4-5" of rain by Monday evening. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. CENTRAL PLAINS - Warm temperatures return to the Plains this week thanks to ridging over the Gulf. This will lead to the potential for record breaking high temperatures across the Plains of Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and MIchigan. Each red dot above represents a city that may break or tie a record high.These temperatures will average 20-30 degrees above the normal for Monday afternoon.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-09 194634-1741571295978.jpg">This warmth will continue through the work week across our northern Plains cities. Spring-like Temperatures In the Central Plains

It's that time of year. The back-and-forth arm wrestling of the seasons plays out on top of us each Spring. Strong clashes can only be brought on by strong systems. Our next one moves in late this week.<h1>ORIGIN STORY</h1>Like most systems, this one moves onshore out west first. A strong trough will leap over the Rockies and emerge in the Plains Thursday into Friday. It will move onshore strong but get even stronger crossing the Rockies with a little help in the upper levels of the atmosphere. That strengthening trough will birth a low-pressure center at the surface where our system lives.<h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-09 101836-1741537127914.jpg">SEVERE STORMS</h1>As always, the first concern jumps to severe weather in March. With a strong system, warm and unstable air will get yanked northward setting the stage for severe weather Friday and Saturday. The Storm Prediction Center is already eyeing a LARGE area of concern to end the week. It's a little too early to know for sure, but there will be plenty of ingredients to tap into, it's a matter of where.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-09 200021-1741572110947.jpg">They also have a risk for severe storms on Saturday as well. This includes portions of the Deep South: Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Florida are all a part of this outlook,<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-09 200030-1741572106549.jpg"><h1>WINTER WEATHER</h1>It wouldn't be a March blockbuster without some snow on the backside of the system. The Upper Midwest will be primed for heavy snowfall and some whiteout conditions if the track holds. A lot will ride on how much cold air gets dragged down as the system comes together later this week.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-09 102829-1741537914284.jpg"><h1>FLOODING THREAT</h1>Severe weather. Check. Potential blizzard conditions. Check. Flooding looks like another issue to monitor later this week as well. Monster Storm System Looms This Week

Meteorologist Jesse Kelley is excited to join the talented staff at Weather Nation. Jesse spent most of his childhood in Birmingham, Alabama. The state of Alabama is prone to seeing various types of weather from severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather. For college, Jesse attended the University of South Alabama where he received his degree in Broadcast Meteorology along with minors in Math and Geography. From Alabama, Jesse started his broadcast television working three years at KAVU-TV in Victoria. Recently, he finished a stint in Shreveport, LA. CALIFORNIA - Despite recent storm systems, California's snowpack remains below average (about 82% of average to date). As our latest system wraps up, California and Nevada did pick up an additional foot to two feet of snow. As we jump ahead to next week, the weather pattern will pick up for not only California but all of the Western United States.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-09 200350-1741572464525.jpg">Starting Tuesday, we will see a huge influx of Pacific moisture moving into California and Southern Oregon that will lead to lots of rain and snow. Some of the early modeling is showing several feet of snow to fall across the Northern Sierra with lesser amounts father south. Lots of snow is also coming to the Northwest. The National Weather Service has already issued Winter Storm Warnings in advance of this system. The forecast calls for 1-3 feet of snowfall and winds up to 70 mph.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-09 200300-1741572501394.jpg">Here's a look at the latest timing. We have two rounds of wet weather to head to the state of California. Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Don't miss the total lunar eclipse this week - it will be the last for North America until 2029! The eclipse will happen very late Thursday night - technically Friday morning since totality will start after midnight. As the moon moves into the umbra, or the darkest shadow cast by the earth, it will turn a deep red hue due. This will happen starting around 1 am ET, but the red color will become much more noticeable around 2 am, with totality or the complete blood moon look, happening between 2:26 am and 3:31 am ET. <video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/2025-03-08 08-28-36-1741448546607.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Here's a look at how the moon will change from it's classic white to the dark red as it moves across Earth's shadow. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-08 084030-1741448509493.png">This Friday's eclipse is a "total" lunar eclipse, so designated because it passes through the darkest portion of Earth's shadow known as the umbra. While this earth shadow always present, it isn't too often that the moon moves directly through the darkest part.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-08 085447-1741449297753.png">During a partial lunar eclipse, the "umbra", or earth's hard shadow, doesn't fully cover the moon, only a portion. During a penumbral lunar eclipse, the earth only passes through the "soft" shadow of the moon, with the umbra completely missing the lunar surface.

It is time! (No pun indented). Sunday, March, 9 marks the beginning of Daylight Saving. A little confused on which is, which? With Daylight Saving we "spring forward" by pushing the clocks forward an hour. At 2:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, digital clocks will jump ahead by one hour, providing an extra hour of daylight in the evening.&nbsp;If you have an analog clock do not forget to change it, the microwave, or the oven.While many people look forward to longer days and more sunlight, the transition can also lead to some confusion and disruptions, particularly in terms of sleep schedules (Can't Sleep catch us on WeatherNation all 24 hours). Here is what you need to know as we head into the start of Daylight Saving Time:<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-08 051923-1741436367533.jpg"><h1>What Is Daylight Saving Time?&nbsp;</h1>Daylight Saving Time is the practice of moving the clock forward by one hour during the warmer months to make better use of daylight. This shift typically begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November. The concept was originally proposed to reduce energy consumption by extending daylight hours.<h1>Why Do We Do It?&nbsp;</h1>The idea behind DST is simple: by shifting an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening, people have more daylight hours after work or school. This can encourage outdoor activities, reduce the need for artificial lighting in the evening (saving energy), and generally align active hours of the day with available sunlight.&nbsp;<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-08 052028-1741436432226.jpg"><h1>Who Does Not Observe DST?&nbsp;</h1>While Daylight Saving Time is observed in most parts of the U.S., a few areas, including Hawaii and most of Arizona, do not participate in the time change. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas through Thursday evening. After 2 pm CST and through 7 pm CST, wintry weather in the form of snow, sleet and mixed is possible, especially during the evening commute.

Windy Advisories also stretch across the state of Texas, into Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Kansas, with wind that could gust up to 50 mph.
