<p style="margin: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt;"><span style="font-size: 13.5pt; color: #454545;">Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

Severe thunderstorms are expected in the Midwest, where a tornado outbreak is possible, in addition to other modes of severe weather (large hail and damaging winds). These storms will be driven by the strong wind shear brought to the area by the upper-level trough. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-27 124752-1745779716338.png">Strong winds and massive hail are expected, but the tornado threat will also be quite high for portions of the Upper-Midwest, thanks to increased wind shear near the upper-level low.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-27 124900-1745779756291.png">This includes the potential for significant tornadoes in the Upper-Midwest, meaning we could see violent tornadoes that last for a long duration. Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p>We saw another day of record warmth across the south today. Mobile, Alabama, saw a high of 89°, and Vicksburg, Mississippi, saw a high of 90°, which tied previous records for both cities. An area of high pressure will continue to dominate, and we will see the potential for more record highs this week.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/tied records-1745804423631.png">Several records will be in jeopardy throughout the work week. Cities across Florida, including Tallahassee, Tampa, and Orlando, will have the potential to tie or beat records. But it is not just Florida, cities across the south, including Memphis, Tennessee, and Jackson, Mississippi, will be in the running to break records.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-27 210700-1745809626734.png">Looking at this week, cities across the south run above average. Tampa, Florida, has an average in the mid-80s for this time of year, and temperatures will reach the 90s this week, bringing the heat. Little Rock, Arkansas, should be in the mid-70s, but will see highs in the 80s. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-27 125442-1745780398817.png">Even the northeastern U.S. will start the week with beautiful spring temperatures. In the same way, a cold front separates cold air from warm air. It helps to trigger thunderstorms, and the forecast supports that through tonight in west Texas.</p><div data-youtube-video=""><iframe width="640" height="480" allowfullscreen="false" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/P0JVrM2oFDk" start="0"></iframe></div><h2>Through Tonight</h2><p>The Storm Prediction Center has issued a<strong> SLIGHT</strong> risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe storms across West Texas and the Oklahoma panhandle. The hazards that come along with this risk of supercell thunderstorms include tornadoes and significantly large hail, meaning hail larger than 2" in diameter. The issues with dryline thunderstorms are sometimes that the threat can be conditional - will the contrast be strong enough to support supercells?</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/through tofff-1745804198378.png">Here's a look a tonight's forecast. Our in-house model shows a few storms possible overnight. <p>At least one person was killed in Oklahoma Saturday night as several tornadoes moved across the southern tier of the state. A tornado in Hughes County injured one person and killed another. Photos are from the Hughes County Emergency Manager of a manufactured home that was destroyed. Several tornadoes also occurred in Texas, along with numerous severe thunderstorms.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Spaulding, OK tor damage 2-1745184980260.png"></p><p>Damage surveys are still incomplete in Oklahoma and Texas as of Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service Offices in Norman, Dallas, and San Angelo are expected to complete surveys today with final results by Monday or Tuesday. A multi-vehicle crash shut down a portion of the New York State Thruway in Buffalo amid blizzard conditions on Tuesday, January 2. At least two people were injured, <a href="http://buffalonews.com/2018/01/02/eastbound-lanes-of-i-90-near-depew-closed-due-to-crash/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a news report said</a>.

Twenty-two vehicles were directly involved in the crash, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz tweeted following reports of 75 vehicles involved in the crash. Many other vehicles that were not directly involved in the crash were backed up on the highway, he tweeted.
