<p>April through June average more severe storms and tornadoes than any other portion of the year, so the time is now to get severe-weather ready. Another significant Spring storm system will intensify quickly as it moves into the Plains and Midwest.</p><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-31 080913-1743430162237.png">Severe Side</h1><p>At the surface, moisture and warm temperatures will surge, creating high instability for the front to tap into as it progresses slowly to the east.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-31 081012-1743430221501.png">The Storm Prediction Center has issued severe weather outlooks for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to help prepare the public for storm chances this week. On Tuesday, the SPC's outlook includes a small area of <strong>Enhanced</strong> severe weather risk surrounded by a large <strong>Slight</strong> risk for severe weather.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 051808-1743506295870.jpg">A slight risk has been issued across the Midwest on Tuesday with the threat of large hail being the biggest concern. Isolated tornadoes (EF-2 or stronger) are also possible in the dark red shaded area.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 051922-1743506381423.jpg">On Wednesday, the severe threat steps up a notch, with better ingredients mixing in. Another WIDE area under an <strong>ENHANCED</strong> risk of severe thunderstorms (level 3 out of 5).</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 052406-1743506653283.jpg">The threat will hover around the same areas into the second half of the week. As the trough nearly stalls on Thursday, severe weather is expected again from Texas to Pennsylvania.</p><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 052816-1743506909625.jpg">Flooding</h1><p>Forecast rainfall could exceed 10 inches in the heart of this rain bullseye. <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.weathernationtv.com/news/multi-day-flood-threat-for-lower-mississippi-and-ohio-valley">Read more about the Flood Potential</a> </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 053122-1743507091019.jpg">As the trough slows, rain will move over the same areas during the Midweek time frame. This will lead to heavy rain from Arkansas through the Ohio Valley.<br>As heavy rain is expected to stall and fall over several days, the flood threat is expected to increase considerably. <p>Prolonged heavy rain is expected to begin Wednesday as strong storms and a cold front work across the Lower Mississippi and Ohio Valley. Several frontal waves will work through the area between Wednesday and Sunday, prompting a Flood Watch for a widespread region from Texarkana, TX to Columbus, OH.</p><p>Impressive rainfall totals and rainfall rates 2/3" per hour at times will cause rivers, creeks, and streams to run swollen. Urban flooding will be likely after saturated soils and always remember, Turn Around, Don't Drown. <span style="color: rgb(31, 31, 31)">Over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood waters.</span></p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 122030-1743531646459.png"><br></p><h1>DAY BY DAY</h1><h2>WEDNESDAY</h2><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 122100-1743531711079.png">60-80% to pick up over 2 inches of rain. Rainfall rates will be around 1-2"/hour during peak intensity; however, 3"/hour have been recorded historically during events with a comparable setup.</p><h2>THURSDAY</h2><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 122107-1743531735706.png">A higher end MODERATE outlook and some localized spots could be upgraded to a high risk.</p><h2>FRIDAY</h2><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 122126-1743531742953.png">Day 3 is also a higher end MODERATE outlook, and some localized spots could be upgraded to a high risk. Now the rainfall will continue to high the same areas that have picked up 2-6" of rain in the last 48 hour period. Multi-day Flood Threat for Lower Mississippi and Ohio Valley

<p>Severe chances have been easy to find in the past week or two. The month of March was littered with them to close and that's spilling right into April. A slow-moving frontal boundary will focus multiple days of storms which will lead to a flooding threat. On top of torrential rain, these storms could be packing damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes. We're here to break it down by day.</p><h1>TUESDAY</h1><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 063806-1743511093882.jpg"></p><p>Today's an interesting one. While this system gets its act together, there are some severe ingredients to work with. This kinda boils down to two different areas to watch: (1) the cold front and (2) the dryline. The cold front will have a better time to generating thunderstorms vs a dryline.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 063753-1743511104968.jpg"></p><p>IFFF storms develop in Oklahoma or Texas along the dryline, they will be capable of producing HUGE hail and a strong tornado.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/2025-04-01 06-59-22-1743512380410.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>WEDNESDAY</h1><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 114219-1743529384755.jpg"></p><p>As it stands, Wednesday is the closest to a severe weather outbreak this week. A well-built front will gradually slide east throughout the day. By the afternoon, all of the ingredients will be in place, helping power storms capable of large hail, damaging winds, and multiple tornadoes.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 114423-1743529473602.jpg"></p><p>Have multiple ways to receive warnings, peak timeframe looks like it will be early afternoon into the overnight hours.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/2025-04-01 06-58-09-1743512321909.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1>THURSDAY</h1><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 064115-1743511283480.jpg"></p><p>Thursday is when things slow down. The front responsible for the severe chances on Wednesday will run into some opposition. A building high over the southeast will bring the front to a screeching halt for the second half of the week. Usually, this is where a forecast becomes clear as mud. Without a sure-fire bet to trigger storms, it's hard to nail down when/where severe chances might be. Will it be unusually warm and humid ahead of this boundary? Absolutely. Will ongoing rain limit the severe potential? Maybe. The flooding threat will start to sky-rocket, with or without severe storms.</p><h1>FRIDAY</h1><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 064303-1743511392777.jpg"></p><p>See Thursday. This will likely turn into a day-by-day adjustment to severe chances. Have back-up plans here if you're trying to get outside. We've got details to iron out between now and then.</p><p></p><h1>SATURDAY</h1><p>CTRL+C CTRL+V Friday aka Thursday. Flooding threat could be approaching life-threatening levels by now.</p><p></p>

FORECAST: Relentless Severe Chances This Week

<p>Powerful storms raced through the Midwest and down to the Gulf Coast coming out of this weekend. Sunday afternoon into Monday morning, a strong line of storms spurred numerous Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and quite a few Tornado Warnings. Those storms produced hundreds of reports of damage, with a few tornadoes touching down. </p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot 2025-04-01 055103-1743508412691.jpg">One of those was early Monday morning as a segment of the line started to spin in southern Mississippi. Severe Storms Leave Damage from the Midwest to the Deep South This Week

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. <p><strong>NORTHERN U.S. </strong>- <strong>Winter weather alerts</strong> are expanding across portions of North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Minnesota as an upper-level low brings severe weather on the "warm side" and snowy and blizzard-like weather on the "cold side".</p><p>Heavy snow, upwards of 6-12", is likely in these areas, but what could be the biggest hazard is the wind. Winds may gust up to 35 mph. Blizzard conditions could be an issue, so make plans to avoid travel if at all possible.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/Screenshot 2025-03-31 205611-1743476180771.png">Here's a look at our forecast timing: On Tuesday morning, temperatures will be cold enough to support snowfall. AS the day warms, snowy areas turn to rain, and as night falls, rain turns back to snowfall. This will lead to messy conditions on the roadways.</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/2025-04-01 07-15-46-1743506194581.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><p></p><p>Winds will be strong enough to cause blowing snow concerns. According to the Winter Storm Severity Index, some areas in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota may experience moderate impacts from the blowing snowfall.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/Web 2-1743506345859.png"></p><p>Forecast models have winds blowing stronger than 35 mph at times, and if this is in combination with less than a quarter of a mile visibility, lasting for longer than 3 hours, that would classify this storm as a blizzard</p><video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/04/2025-04-01 07-17-21-1743506282615.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>

Heavy, Wet Snow on Northern Side of Severe Weather

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

<p>All modes of severe weather were seen Monday across the south, southeast, and northeast. Multiple tornadoes were confirmed in Mississippi and Georgia. Marion County, MS, confirmed an EF2 tornado that occurred this morning at 6:10 am. The path length of this tornado was 7.4 miles, with peak winds of 135 mph. The National Weather Service will continue to survey damage over the next few days, as this system moves offshore overnight, but more rounds of severe weather are expected this week.</p><p><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/03/multiple confirieed-1743470014932.png"></p><h1>Severe Weather Outlook</h1><p>After another busy day, the severe threat has dropped to a general thunderstorm risk for most of the south.
